Which Viscosity of CA Glue is Best for Inlays?

1 min reading time

Recently we have released a number of inlay materials, and that may have you wondering which glues to pair with them and the proper technique for applying the glue. Worry not! We have the answers.

For finer inlay materials, such as powders or our Mother of Pearl White Inlay flakes, Starbond Super Fast Thin will be your best bet. First put the inlay material in to the crack, then apply the Thin over the top of it. The Thin will wick down through the material and hold it to the piece. You can also line the crack with painter's tape to minimize spillover.

For larger inlay materials, like our Turquoise Wood Inlay, the Multi-Purpose Medium will work better than the thin. It will still wick down between the stones, but the more viscous glue is better at filling gaps. It will still dry crystal clear, and even gives you a bit of working time to reposition any stones that move. The technique is the same, fill the crack or void first, then apply glue over the inlay material. You can sand down any excess glue afterwards too.
